He is your Savior, your Father, your best friend.

"No longer do I call you servants… I have called you friends, for everything I learned from my Father I have made known to you."

— John 15:15

The real, human facts about the man who changed everything.

Full name

Yeshua bar Yosef — Joshua, son of Joseph. 'Jesus' is the Greek form of the Hebrew Yeshua.

Birthday

Likely between 6–4 BC, in Bethlehem. December 25 was assigned by the early church — the actual date is unknown, but many scholars believe it was spring based on shepherd activity described in Luke 2.

Birthplace

Bethlehem of Judea, in a stable — because there was no room in the inn. His first bed was a feeding trough for animals.

Hometown

Nazareth, in Galilee — a small, looked-down-upon town. 'Can anything good come from Nazareth?' (John 1:46) was the common attitude of the time.

Ethnicity

Jewish. Middle Eastern. Dark-complexioned, with brown eyes and dark hair — the typical appearance of a first-century Jewish man from Galilee.

Height & build

No physical description is given in Scripture. Isaiah 53:2 says 'He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him' — suggesting He was completely ordinary-looking. Not tall, striking, or visually remarkable.

Language

His everyday language was Aramaic. He also spoke Hebrew (used in synagogue) and likely some Greek, which was the trade language of the region.

Education

He did not attend rabbinical school. He was not formally trained by any recognized teacher. The crowds were regularly astonished: 'How did this man get such learning without having been taught?' (John 7:15)

Lifespan

Approximately 33 years. Born around 4 BC, crucified around AD 30.

Citizenship

A subject of the Roman Empire, living under Roman occupation. He was not wealthy, not politically connected, and had no official status in the world's most powerful government.
